Do you ever feel like giving up.? Do you feel like I have done enough? Does this thought come to your mind that I am not worthy of it? Do you feel like this AINT me? I cant be something or someone? Do you ever feel low about yourself?
Defeat is just an illusion. Believe it or not.
This is a real life story of hardship and his story of how he managed to pull himself from a series of continuous failure to ultimate glory.
On 17th October 1972 Marshall Bruce Mathers and Deborah Rae Nelson gave birth to a child named Marshall. Marshall was left by his father at a very young and her mother shuttled between Michigan and Missouri, not staying anywhere for more than a year or a two.
As a teenager Marshall was considered Loner. As he spent most of his life in a largely black lower-middle class Detroit neighborhood and he used to get beaten up several times. Interested in storytelling and aspiring to be a comic-book artist, he discovered hip-hop. Marshall heard his first rap song from Debbies half-brother Ronnie who became musical mentor for Marshall who later committed suicide in 1991. At age 14, Marshall began rapping with a high-school friend and adopted a name M&M and they used to sneak into lunchroom rap battles. Soon he succeeded and gained appreciation from underground audiences.
Soon by his growing profile and reputation he joined several rap groups. None of them took off. He recorded his first album Infinity which was a commercial failure in 1996, and was largely ignored. After the release, an unsuccessful suicide attempt led him to write angrier and moody tracks. During this time his house was robbed several times. He started washing dishes for minimum wage at a restaurant, Gilberts lodge. Sooner he was fired from Gilberts lodge as well.
Things picked up when he developed his sadistic, ultra-violent Slim-Shady. He needed more attention. In the spring of 1997 he developed his debut Slim Shady EP. In 1997 he competed in Rap Olympics, a nationwide battle rap competition and stood second place. After listening to this he was called by Dr. Dre, the producer and founder of Aftermath Entertainment. After working with series of albums with Dr. Dre he became more comfortable and sooner released The Slim Shady LP in Feb 1999, it was one of the years most popular albums, going triple platinum. It went on to sell 1.76 million copies in its first week. It was the fastest-selling solo album in US history beating Britney spears Baby one more time.
In 2000 he became the first white person to be featured on the cover of the source magazine. He is referred as one of the greatest Hip-Hop artists of all time.
He was ranked 83rd on rolling magazines list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.
He is the best-selling artist of the 2000s (decade) has over 100 million record sales worldwide. This great artist is popularly known as EMINEM.
SO why did he succeed? Was he naturally talented or God gifted? I dont think so. Dont you think he has faced enough? Even after bullying and getting beaten up he stood up to what he wanted in life. He neither was financially favored nor did he have any family support. It was enough to leave some shattered and demotivated for the rest of their lives. But this wasnt him. He was persistent. He never gave up.
Nobody can beat you if youre persistent. Because a river can cut through a rock not because of its power but because of its persistence. Defeat becomes permanent when you give up. So now the question arises. DO YOU WANNA GIVE UP?
