Women who were the most dormant segment of India population have now become an active participant in all walks of life. They are now influencing the course of change. This came to be proven when a batch of three female fighter pilots- Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh created a history when they were inducted in Indian Air Force fighter squadron on June 18th 2016.
Ms. Avani from Madhya Pradesh, Ms. Mohana Singh from Jhunjhunu Rajasthan and Ms. Bhawana Kanth who hails from Darbhanga in Bihar set a significant milestone for the Indian military as they were the first women fighter pilots and it was the first time it had permitted women into combat roles. On successful completion of their training the trio were formally commissioned by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. After their stage III training at Bidar they will get to fly fighter jets like Sukhoi and Tejas. Combat roles are still off the limits in Army and Navy due to operational concerns.
Breaking the barriers, these women became an inspiration. Though the training was the same as it was for men, they gave their 100% and overcame challenges and rigorous training schedule. Womens interest and participation is increasing in social life. These days their role is not limited to their household chores. They are now playing the combat roles.
