This about our current vice president. Venkaiah Naidu took an oath as the 13th Vice-President of India this Friday. The ceremony was administered by President Ramnath Kovind, at Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan.
There is something you should know about the current Vice-President of India. He is the 15th Vice President, and 13th person to hold the constitutional post. He has served as the Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Urban Development, Information and Broadcasting under BJP government.
If we talk about his early life, he was born in a humble agricultural family in Nellore district. Being a brilliant orator, he gained prominence as he vigorously espoused the cause of farmer and development of backward areas. His oratory skills elevated his political career as he was elected as an MLA from Udayagiri constituency in Nellore district in 1978 and 1983. Later he was elected as a member of Rajya Sabha from Karnatake 1998. After the NDA victory in 1999 general election, he became the Union Cabinet Minister for rural Development in the government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 2003 he succeeded Jana Krishnamurthi as the National President of the Bhartiya Janata Party. He remained as the forefront of the BJP even after NDA defeat in 2004 general election. He raised Special Status to Andhra Pradesh issue in Rajya Sabha as an opposition member and demanded special category state status to AP. After the historic BJP victory in the 2014 general election, he became the Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary affairs.
As a Vice President, Naidu will act as Rajya Sabha chairman. It can be hoped that his presence will result in running the House more smoothly.
