The Finnish Lapphund is a very old Finnish breed with common origins. It was mostly raised and bred by the Scandinavian people called the Sami. Mostly used as a watchdog for reindeer herds and for hunting purposes. It is a medium in size with a square look. Their head is wide, trapezoidal, with a conical, short muzzle, similar to those of foxes. The eyes are medium-sized and hazel in color. The ears are small, wide apart, triangular, pointed and erect. A bushy tail is carried behind. Their fur is double-layered with a short, soft, thick inner layer and an outer layer made of thick, long and rough hair. The fur is longer on the neck, the back, the lower side of the legs and tail.
This dog is an intelligent, dynamic, friendly dog that likes to bark but can also be stubborn. They are highly devoted to their masters, are mostly loving and tolerant towards children as well. It causes awareness by barking and is usually not dangerous. They are sociable with other dogs and animals.
This breed is resistant to weather changes and feels better in the open, in a colder climate with a loving and active family. It likes physical activity and long walks and sticks along with its master. This breed is easy to train as it is smart and ready to learn. Persistent and good training will help them learn many things. It is the best watchdog to have around.
