Ashwa Racings latest achievement is RZX6C. This is their latest combustion car with a top speed of 120 kmph. This car has already created quite a buzz around the world. It was awarded 2nd most cost effective car in the Formula Student Czech Republic in August, 2016. Their cars have been showcased in various expos such as IMTEX, Elecrama, The Hindu Auto Expo, NHRD conference, Times Auto Expo, to name a few.
When asked why you are building cars, whats your inspiration; they say that they do it for the excitement, the thrill of watching their creation grow from just a few pieces of metal to something much more. To something that justifies all the hard work and effort put in. They say the hands on experience and knowledge gained by this has no match.
Ashwa Racing started its Motorsport journey in the year 2003 by Arun Raj, with its first ever participation at FS Australasia in 2005, bagging the Best Cost Award with a score of 99/100. They were the first Indian team to race at a Formula SAE event, after which several other colleges followed. Since then, Ashwa Racing has produced 13 prototype racecars (11 combustion and 2 hybrid), which have participated in Formula Student competitions all across the world, making the country proud.
In 2013, they took a break to research about diversifying into the Hybrid category. Having realized the importance of green technology, the team rolled out its first hybrid vehicle which was showcased in the Formula Hybrid event conducted in the USA in the month of April 2015, where it stood 7th overall in the world. The 2016 prototype RZX6H secured the 2nd position in the design event and project management event and beating all odds secured 4th position in the Formula Hybrid event at the USA.
Their team comprises of 100 undergrad engineering students from a plethora of engineering streams. The work breakdown structure is such that each member fulfills both a technical and managerial role. On completion of the prototypes the team members learn a wide variety of skills such a maintaining the right balance of technical and managerial know how, adhering to the strict deadlines that the project demands and most importantly camaraderie.
Some are inspired by the sound of the engine. Some are inspired by the looks while some always wanted to live their childhood dream, that of building a car. Irrespective of the reason behind, each team member is constantly driven by one vision. They just want to build the best car out there. Hats off to Ashwa Racing for all their achievements. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors. I hope you continue to inspire the students around the world and bring about a positive change.
