Jackie Chan was born in Hong Kong. He had a rough childhood and could not afford a formal education. However, with sheer determination and hard work, he has turned his life around. Since then, he has focused a lot on highlighting numerous issues and championing causes to find a solution.
He started the Jackie Chan Charitable foundation back in 1988. This foundation since initiation has been focusing on providing scholarships and other assistance to those in need. This foundation also gives medical aid and relief for those affected by natural disasters.
In 2004, Chan inaugurated the Dragons heart foundation, which builds schools and helps the kids and the elderly in remote parts of China. To ensure the smooth running of this organization, Chan enlists kids from around the world to contribute. He has already bequeathed half of his assets to charity.
His entire life, he has been championing the cause of education. He believes if everyone receives formal education, then this world can be a whole lot better. In lieu of this line of thought, he has come up with Build a school for a Dollar. This is one unique way of raising cash where everyone donates one Dollar and one Dollar only. The money collected would be used to build schools in the remote regions of China. Whats interesting is Jackie has promised to match ones donation. So if you donate one Dollar, even Jackie will donate one Dollar. If you donate a Million, Even Jackie will donate a Million. Over the past six years, fans have donated more than US $96,000 and Jackie has matched this donation for a total of over US $192,000, enough to build several schools in poor and remote areas of China. The project continues to be in action.
Kudos to Jackie Chan for all his work and efforts to make this world a better place. We should be inspired by his dedication and hard work and look to help people around us in any way we can because, like Jackie once said, "If everyone does some good, think of what a good world this will be."
