Ok let's face it. At some point of time everyone of us have revolved to lose 15kgs and look fit. Most of the time, this becomes our New Year resolution. But don't you just keep failing? Do you visit that gym more than a week which you recently joined and not feel guilty about the amount of money you spent?
This happens because we set a goal of loosing 15kgs. While we would stay motivated at the beginning, slowly the motivation gets cut-off, as all of us have a limited amount of self-discipline. So eventually we just quit everything and thus we fail.
Instead, we should look at the habits that underlie that goal, that would make that goal an inevitability, like eating better, walking more often instead of taking an Uber, developing a workout plan and then focus on those. The weight loss then naturally occurs as a side effect. Moreover, it is said that you just need to make yourself do something just for 30 days, after that our body switches to auto-pilot mode. With goals, every day you go back to the gym feels harder. With habits, after a while it feels harder to not go to the gym than it does to go.
And amazingly, most habits are actually quite simple to achieve, requiring far less initial effort than most of us realize.
