Most of us were introduced to English Rock bands by the means of Linkin Park. They were the reason that our days at school sucked less. Chester's voice was like a remedy to our broken hearts. He never failed to rescue me. Whenever I felt like nobody is able to understand.. parents.. school.. friends.. I would use to lock myself in my room and listen to that beautiful voice for hours at once. And I can say it today without any doubt that his voice kept me out of depression.
But who knew that the same person who was able to magically heal people was himself broken? Who knew the screams we use to hear in his songs were actually a cry for help. Yes he was fighting depression. And sadly we all were too busy with ourselves. Too focused on our own problems that we forgot to understand that beautiful yet broken voice.
For the initial 10 minutes after I received this news, I was thunderstruck. I was not able to move. And while I was lying in my bed, listening to each and every song he performed, it occurred to me that there has been hints all along. In every song, through the lyrics he tried to tell us how 'heavy' was he really was feeling.
I learned a very important thing yesterday night. I learned that we should not take ANYTHING for granted. Instead of making ourselves the center of the universe, we should really try to get others around us. You may never know what demons they must be fighting. Depression is real. If it can defeat such a great artist, than its not something that can be ignored. Chester first taught us to fight depression during our high school years, and now he taught how we should not let it win over us. How we should take care of each other.
I was yet to see him performing live, with all of his glory. But I still hope maybe someday, somewhere Ill see him again.
RIP CHESTER BENNINGTON.
