If you have any plans of going on a trip to Romania, this is one place you can not afford to miss.
The statue of Decebalus is one of the amazing sculptures on earth. It is located near the town of Orsova, in southwestern Romania. It is done after one of the famous rulers of Romania, Decebalus. He was the last king of Dacia.
It is carved into the mountain rock which depicts the famous ruler. With a height of about 40 meters, it is the tallest rock sculpture in Europe. It can be reached by a boat ride but it can be seen from the road. It took nearly 10 years to carve.
One of the interesting facts about this is that it is not very old. The sculpting started around 1994 and completed on 2004. Another interesting fact is that it took only 12 sculptors to carve this beautiful piece of art.
The entire project was proposed and funded by one of the wealthiest Romanians ever, Constantin Dragan. He was one of the wealthiest Businessman of Romania. It is said that he spent one million USD on this project.
There is an inscription right under the carved face, which is written in Latin as DECEBALUS REX-DRAGAN FECIT
Or its English translation as King Decebal- Made by Dragan.
The untaken Road
Every day I would tread the roa
Every day I would tread the road,
Taken by many,
Said by none,
A road many men tread,
Only to please themselves.
As I tread through the road,
I would see women,
I bent my head,
Every day I would see a woman,
Beautiful beyond words,
Body, which no man could defy
Yet no life resided in the eyes,
No sense of shame,
Yet stood there heartless.
She stood out in all ways,
Interesting in every way,
Heart pounded with lust,
To have her,
Once in a lifetime.
Courage finally grew,
I made a move,
Desires took over my brain,
Went up to her,
To please myself.
She came at me,
Performing her role,
Sense of passion filling around,
Pleasure resided within me.
She stood there motionless, expressionless,
Making me wonder,
The reason for the outcome.
Asked her about the motive,
As truth revealed,
Shock bewildered me,
Her son counted his last,
Men rode inside her,
None felt her agony.
Regret resided me,
Paying cash for the lust,
That dwell within.
All this time,
Men disrespected her,
Reality not known,
I realized blunder,
Which I committed,
Never disrespect anyone,
Without the knowledge of the truth.
