Growing up, all of us have heard some pretty weird facts from our parents that later, obviously, turned out to be untrue. But here are 11 bizarre facts about Brazil which are a hundred percent true.
1. Painful passage into adulthood
While we all agree that being an adolescent is hard, certain tribes in Brazil take it to a new level. Here, in order to be considered an adult, boys have to wear gloves filled with bullet ants, whose bite is so painful that it is compared to a bullet grazing your skin. Not only this, they must dance for 10 minutes to fully make the transition. This ritual is repeated for about 20 times in the lifetime of a man.
2. Turning on the heat with Piranha soup
While aphrodisiacs are used throughout the world, Brazil has its own special take on it. Turns out that the Brazilians use piranha soup to make you all hot and bothered. It certainly gives a new meaning to eating someone, doesn't it?
3. Testing faith with fire
If you're a religious person born in Brazil, chances are that you'll have to walk on fire to prove your faith. No literally, people prove their faith in God by walking on fire. And here I thought hell was supposed to be hot.
4. Animal equality
We all agree that animals should be treated fairly and not lesser than humans. Brazil took this a step ahead when, in 1958, a rhinoceros was the candidate for the city council elections. I know where all the animal lovers are going the next vacation.
5. Milk for all
In Brazil, breast milk is taken from mothers and distributed throughout the country to all the children, who have been orphaned.
6. Back to your roots
Some brazilian tribes seem to take this expression way too seriously. They, instead of burying their dead, burn them and then the entire family eats the ashes. Talk about the full circle of life.
7. The bigger, the better
Everyone knows that the size matters and guys can't stop talking about it. But in the Mehinaku tribe, it is the deciding factor for life partners. Apparently, the male who has the biggest fish is the most worthy husband. Like the males literally, have to catch the biggest fish for their intended. What were you thinking of?
8. Free sex..................... change
As of 2009, sex change surgeries have been made free in Brazil as it is recognized as a constitutional right. We all know where Trump wouldn't be visiting.
9. Animal in bed
According to a study conducted, 35% of all males living in rural areas have had sex with an animal. Gives a whole new meaning to an animal in bed, huh?
10. Fake tan is Illegal
Yes, you read it right. There is a country-wide ban on tanning beds in Brazil. It's a good thing that they have all those beautiful beaches to cover up for this.
11. Study to get out of jail
If you're a Brazilian criminal in jail, you can get your sentence reduced by reading a book. 4 days are reduced from your sentence for every book that you read provided you write a review about it.
