Every morning before I get on with my day, like any other teenager my age I usually try and surf the internet. This I do, not just to keep with the prerequisites of being a social human but also because just going through the most random content on the internet helps inspiration dawn. And with today like any other, I was going through some YouTube videos. And I chanced upon a random thirty-six facts that might surprise video and some of them were not that surprising, others were just boring but one did catch my attention. It was that every two minutes approximately we click more pictures now than were clicked in the entire 19th century. Two minutes to a hundred years! The comparison is just insane.
While this simply could be just because in comparison to the 19th century we have significantly better technology now, and it is much easier to save them and maintain several photographs for minimal cost. But this got me thinking, why do we click so many photos now anyway? From selfies to pictures of our loved ones, things we see, things we eat, things we want others to see and things for proof. Its fascinating and bizarre this obsession we have with capturing moments.
I must admit, I am no better. In my head, the justification for pictures has just been such that years down the line I wanted something to look back on, I was in a sense capturing all the smiles, jokes, conversations and laughter in that one click. But I think maybe the reason could be bigger than that. Perhaps in a world where constantly the realization about how insignificant you are, dawns on you in many ways, many times, a photo is some sort of certification that you matter. That somehow in your own way, you have made a difference in this world. Or it could be as simple as your outfit is on fleek and you want to show off. Meh, who knows?
