Sexuality is defined as the act of being sexually attracted. Sexuality is not a rigid binary. It isnt an either here or there. Sexuality most appropriately can be regarded as a spectrum. According to a pioneering research conducted by Dr. Alfred Kinsley, most people are never exclusively straight or gay/lesbian. He says that most people fall into between categories of predominantly heterosexual but incidentally homosexual, primarily heterosexual but more than incidentally homosexual or equally heterosexual and homosexual. The topic of sex and its various categories is considered a taboo in our country. Homosexuality has always been on the receiving end of outrage and other sexual orientations are not even considered to be valid. The education and acceptance of different sexual orientations are minimal. Some even consider it as a sickness. The law of the country considers it illegal to be identifying as anything but heterosexual. Arguments such as Its Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve, its against natural biology or its a choice has been regarded as valid arguments against this. There have also been suggestions of various solutions to cure people of their sickness. From yoga to electric shock theory to even having sex with the opposite gender, the options are absurd. There is no particular reason as to why people think like they do. It could be the influence of their religious beliefs, just plain ignorance or perhaps the result of the opinions around them. It is hard to tell. But a country that speaks of a rich culture, tolerance and prides itself as a land of great love stories, this intolerance and hate towards people only wanting the right to love who they want to seems very hypocritical.
