Against a stunning scenery of dark green fir trees, perched above the jagged ravines of the River Pollat in the Bavarian Alps, stands the castle of Neuschwanstein. The castle whose ivory towers appear to be hanging in the air is the lovechild of the fantasies and fortune of King Ludwig of Bavaria and the artistic abilities of the composer Richard Wagner.
Termed also as the worlds most magical castle, the Neuschwanstein, is a five-storey Romanesque structure. There was no expense spared in recreating the fantasies of the King, he employed the finest craftsmen, painters, sculptors, and woodcarvers. Such was the grandeur of Neuschwanstein, that the small indoor version of the grotto of Venus, has a cascading waterfall and an artificial moon.
His obsession with his building projects caused Ludwig to be murdered, but he once is said to have written to Wagner, that when they were both long dead, their work will still be a shining example to distant posterity. The magnificent citadel is the validation of his words.
