Weve all heard that word, havent
Weve all heard that word, havent we?
If you havent, for your benefit paradox is a seemingly absurd statement that when researched is proven to be true.
Paradoxes are interesting things and are a component of literature, and real life that I find sheer genius. But like always, I always have favorites. Other than the general paradox of life, the one paradox that I really love is the paradox of Pinocchio.
We all know Pinocchio, the boy whose nose would grow every time he lied. But have you ever thought about what would happen if Pinocchio said, My nose will grow now. Well if you havent, spoiler alert: It would lead to a paradox. Heres why.
So obviously, Pinocchios nose grows each time he lies. So if he said, My nose will grow now, if his nose does grow that means he wasnt lying. But plot twist, if he wasnt lying then that would technically mean his nose shouldnt grow. But then in an unsurprising turn of events, that means that he was lying, so it would mean that his nose has to grow. But that would mean his statement was true, so his nose wouldnt grow. And the cycle repeats.
In other words, if his nose grew it wouldnt be a lie, but it only grows if its a lie.
The best part about this is that this paradox was thought of by an eleven-year-old girl by the name Veronique Eldridge-Smith in 2001.
