One of my friends suggested trying out the newly opened restaurant near college. It was a Saturday afternoon and was the last day of college of the week, so I thought why not! After making myself comfortable in the green leather couch I took the menu card in my hand and started scanning it and my eyes caught hold of Prawns roast masala curry. And chemeen (which is the Malayalam word for prawns) being my favourite was given the first preference while I began placing the order to the waiter.
The last time I ate prawns was 7 months back when I visited my dads place in Cochin. So I was eagerly waiting for the arrival of food, or should I say prawns curry? I kept looking at the waiters who were passing besides my table; each time a waiter passed I hoped he was the guy who is bringing me my prawns curry. I was beginning to lose patience, so I took my phone and began playing Templerun, my favourite game. I soon got engrossed in the game and reached the last level. The strong aroma of mint leaves hit my nose and as I slowly lifted my head I saw a waiter standing beside my table with a plate of neatly marinated prawns curry. I threw my phone away and took a spoon of the curry and put it in my mouth.
It was a spice fest in my mouth but the flavours were so good that it leaves you wanting more despite the fireworks. I mixed the thick gravy with the plain boiled rice and the taste-exquisite! The next thing I remember was licking my fingers after the meal; after all it was a perfect southern coastal seafood cuisine. When I realised what I was doing, I turned towards my friends and other people in the restaurant, embarrassed and conscious and was relieved on seeing that none of them noticed me as most of them were engrossed in eating the food and didnt really care about the eating gestures of the other person. I suddenly missed home.
