A low mist hung over the southerly airfield of Kristiansand, eerily leaving long shadows and dark shapes, indistinct in the new dawn. Water droplets gathered and ran down the sides of sleek shark-like fighters Messerschmitt Bf-109Es of the elite special unit. Tired ground crews prepared the fighters for the days flight, checking engines, fuel quantity, guns and airframes. Damp could affect electrics and delicate systems, endangering a pilots life in the most critical moment. The black overalled figures easily coped with the gremlins of the dawn. The noise echoed through the mist, waking the sleeping pilots, as if the impatient warplanes lusted for action to leap into the air, to search for the kill. Another engine cut through the dawn, followed by another, until a dozen powerful piston engines screamed at full power. Wouldnt the ancient Norse Gods be jealous of such raw, unrestrained power? Then one by one the engines died, testing complete. Soon the watery white sun would burn the mist away and the squadron would be ready
