Ben Affleck the American actor and filmmaker are one among the humanitarians who dedicated his time to help the underprivileged people. Born on August 15, 1972, in Berkeley, California but was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He started his acting career from when he was a child.
In 1998 Affleck acted in a successful blockbuster Armageddon and got a part in the Academy Award-winning film Shakespeare in Love. Being acted in a wide array of movies, he directed and co-wrote Gone Baby Gone in 2007. He directed, co-produced and acted in the movie Argo in 2012 which became one the biggest cinematic successes that earned him the Golden Globe Award for the best director and the best picture for 2013 Oscar. His recent projects are Gone Girl and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Apart from being a successful actor, director and a writer, hes an advocate and philanthropist. He founded a grant-making and advocacy organisation called Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI) which focuses on investing in and working with the people of eastern Congo. They believe that in order to create a sustainable and successful society in eastern Congo, local and community-based approaches are essential along with works that increase the quality and quantity of investments in Congo. Ben Affleck has made nine trips to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) from 2007, with a focus on the eastern Congo. During these trips, he has focused on understanding the causes and consequences of the regions long conflict and to learn about the solutions led by the local Africans to the problems affecting the DRC.
He directed a short film and a public service announcement in 2008 called Gimme Shelter which is about the humanitarian crisis in the DRC. Apart from this, he is also a political activist and a strong supporter of many charitable organisations such as Feeding America, A-T Childrens Project and Jimmy Fund. He launched the Small Change Campaign in order to benefit Feeding America through Ellen DeGeneres show. He also took part in a campaign for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays called Stay Close.
The Oscar winner was honoured with the Favourite Humanitarian honour during the Peoples Choice Awards in 2015 for his work with the ECI. In this ceremony, he was introduced by his friend Amy Adams who said that he puts his heart and soul into everything he does, a quality that makes him not only a great actor but a great humanitarian.
