Whenever we read about successful individuals it looks like they have achieved an unbelievable amount of amazing achievement. We see that the key to their success is some superman routine that is combined with the robotic self-discipline to get a hundred things done each day.
But if you look closely, you realise that these people usually focus sharply on few important activities. Instead of trying to do multi-tasking and stretching themselves thin with other hundred different tasks at the same time, they do the activities to the point and as well as take extensive breaks in between and then move onto the next thing.
The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.- Warren Buffett
The key trick is to get rid of lots of stuff youre doing. To help you actually do this, here are two great methods:
The Essentialism project list: Create a list of everything youre doing. Then rate those items 1- 10 in terms of importance. Once youve done this list, you have to get rid of everything which is below nine ASAP. Delete or finish the tasks you must accomplish as soon as you can and when new commitments are seen then keep applying this method and say no to anything you rate below a nine.
Buffetts two-list strategy: A similar take is Warren Buffetts two-list strategy.
Here it goes: Make a list of 25 things that you still want to do in your life, from this list, pick your top five. The 20 items that you didnt choose will become your avoid at any cost list and these are the items that are distracting you from the top five. So you cant touch them.
