I had a slightly queasy feeling before I left to Kidwai Memorial Hospital on a cold Sunday morning. We were visiting the kids who were suffering from cancer. My mind was wrestling with questions like will the kids like the cards we got for them? Will it bring a smile on their face? Maybe we could do something better? Do we have enough cards for every kid? Will they like mere Eclairs chocolate?
It all started when one of my friends told us about the Mission Chai, an initiative which has been supplying tea, biscuits, fruits to every patient and their attenders in the hospital for two years. We wanted to bring momentary joy on the face of those innocent kids who were going through so much at a very young age. So, we came up with an idea of doing DIY 3D pop greeting cards. It came out pretty well.
First, we helped the Mission Chai team to serve tea and also distributed the fruits they had brought. After some time we went to the block which was meant for kids suffering from cancer. We saw some babies sleeping, some playing, some babies so engrossed with their mobiles that they didnt think it was necessary to look up at me when I was handing over the chocolates! One baby had her monkey cap on and she was one of the cutest babies I came across in the hospital. When I pinched her cheeks, is when she looked up at me and I insisted on shaking her hand. Hesitatingly, she shook hands and smiled too. My happiness knew no bounds.
This was possible because of the encouragement we got from our hero, Rajesh Kumar Sir. Also, our Photographer and Driver, Saran. Aman, who enlightened us about The Mission Chai.
I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who put in their blood, sweat and tears into making the cards. It wouldnt be possible without you guys. Trust me it was worth all your efforts.
