If you see a cat, what would be your natural instinct? Would you want to feed it with Water or Milk? Tom and Jerry Cartoon has thought us that the dogs are attracted towards bones just like how mice are to cheese and cats are to milk! The truth is that in reality, most cats are technically lactose intolerant!
Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest lactose, the natural sugar present in the milk. This is because of insufficient lactase present in the body, which in turn is the enzyme that breaks the lactose down into its individual sugar components called glucose and galactose. As undigested lactose passes through the cat's digestive system it draws water from the intestines. The result of this is violent diarrhea, stomach upset and a not so happy kitty!
So, it really just depends on the cat, but in any case milk should only be given to cats sparingly and as a very special treat every now and then as it is not an essential food in your cats diet. Technically speaking, cows milk is not so good for your kittens but you can check if your cat can digest lactose by feeding it 2-3 spoons of milk. If there is no symptom of diarrhea for the next 12 hours, then it is all right to feed your kitty with milk.
One last but very important thing to keep in mind is that cats will always require plenty of fresh, clean water. So make sure you keep small container of water for your cat.
