Public transportation system: It isnt perfect or exactly widespread like in New York or San Francisco, but it is less crowded and is an efficient way to get around. There arent any subway lines on the Westside- Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and the beaches, though.
There is no city center: There is no main part of the city as LA is spread out among a vast space. Do not assume you can wander around the city and stumble into something amazing. You will need a car and a GPS to avoid getting lost.
Tourist attractions: The main tourist sites like the Hollywood walk of fame and Venice boardwalk might turn out to be a bit of a letdown. Keep in mind that there are more memorable destinations that arent really famous. Try the Getty Center, Huntington Library, Griffith Observatory and El Matador state beach.
Weather: It is usually sunny all-year-round except for a handful of rainy days in the winter. Always carry sunscreen, a hat, and sweatshirt.
Food: As the rule goes in any place you visit, eat where the locals eat. LA has the best sushi after Tokyo, although the pizza might not be as good. There are plenty of cafes for the best food and gazing at hipster life.
People: LA has a rich cultural diversity when it comes to the people. Youll taste amazing ethnic cuisines and meet people you wouldnt expect if youre ready to expand your horizons.
