A million voices around you scream 'No', your health is at fatal risk, you feel the end drawing near, and yet you hold on tight with everything you've got. Giving up is not a choice you're willing to offer yourself, ever.
What is it that gets us to keep going?
And yes, here I talk about binge watching television shows and movies. Hey, what did you think I meant?
I'm awfully surprised there are no support groups around the planet for those that have been churned through the vast swirls of emotion that any well-loved TV show brings with it. They call it the curse of our generation, indulging in heavy excess. We do it out of choice, a desire to entertain ourselves and take a vacation away from harsh brutal reality nagging away at us, reducing our souls to but a wisp of its former self. We take recreation to whole new levels and why not?
Hours spent with marbled eyes glaring intensely at the screen, watching things happen far away, flinching as you feel their pain, laughing at a well-timed quip. The question being-'are we addicts? We let unhealthy amounts of practically useless information wash over us and boy, do we enjoy it! Something sounds wrong there. Its an accepted fact that overdoing anything, especially things that are sought out only to entertain, constitutes something really bad. Common knowledge of its evils are inbuilt within us and we need no explanation. Yet, completely aware of the venom it induces, we still choose to consume it. Foolish though it may seem, that what you and I do every day and we have no regrets.
The human psyche is a weird thing and its various eccentricities will never cease to amaze. Daily things we do that contradicts the basis of our structure prove it in all glory. Its a tame thing now, completely taken for granted and yet, sometimes I wonder.
