Tyrant rulers spewing propaganda that has citizens numb to the quicksand slowly engulfing them. Paranoia grasping at our base fears and the prospect of a bleak, shadowed future. The theme of the fantastic classic 1984 by George Orwell has now escaped pages to invade reality.
1984 is a fantastic read that offers great perspective into the human psyche, its set in a dystopian background. It focuses of a man living out a life of misery in a world ruled by an oppressive figure (titled big brother) whose credibility is overrun with complete authority, leaving no room for questions of any kind. A Ministry of Truth distorting facts to keep the people in constant confusion, a Ministry of Love to hand out various forms of torture and lessons with fatal ends to all that dare exhibit resilience to this iron fisted governance. Every word, every movement, every expression under constant surveillance with no respite. Not so metaphorical eyes following you around everywhere.
A land where truth and fiction lack separate definition or identity. The abhorring quality of life a constant reminder that the life I currently lead might as well be designed around paradise.
I read every page of the book in open mouthed awe and with a million lines of thought coagulating in my mind, on the verge of a mental breakdown. The words of this brilliant story opened up portals of understanding and reasoning that I never did think existed. Its amazing what a good book can do to you, jitters running down your spine.
This book keeps cropping up in my mind every time I see the authorities going berserk on the news. A book that commands an audience. Still a masterpiece after over seventy years of its publishing.
