A little procrastinator dwells in every one of us. For some, procrastination is a way of life and for some others, its one of those things that pop up to say hi every month or so. Putting things off comes more naturally to some people and I, of course, am a not-so-proud member of some people.
Procrastination comes to me as a natural under thought. Its always there, an option that just wont go away. With it comes the appeal of lazing away, of not having to bury myself under a mound of things that scream at me through my to-do list. Its the easy way out and hey, Im only human.
Like I said before, its not something I enjoy bragging about. But then, when I actually give it some thought I realize that in a way, it does make me more efficient. Given the same kind of a work, a person who starts it a week before, time takes longer to complete it than me working with adrenaline pumping, last minute panic. The quality of work does leave room for improvement, I admit. Theirs is a pretty piece of art while mine looks like something the cat dragged in.
After a while, theres just no going back. The only motivation to get the job done comes from the ticking arm of the clock counting away to D-day. Nothing else has the potency to get me out of my stagnancy and make me tackle the problem at hand, head on. Theres that little nagging voice in the back of mind constantly screaming insults at me for racing against time when failure threatens to gnaw away at my essence.
I have full knowledge of the fact that procrastination is an unhealthy habit. Yet, what my brain comprehends, it does not will into action. Here I am, whiling away time at the crossroads while everyone else zips by on their motor powered skates. Maybe all I need in a good shove into the whirlpool to help get my priorities in order. Maybe I just have to take a firm stand and draw purpose from necessity.
Yeah, Ill start tomorrow.
