Looking to learn a new skill this summer? Heres what you could do this vacation - turn yourself from a beginner to pro in the art of swimming. Swimming not only is a fun thing to do, it is the perfect exercise to your body.
Whether youre a newbie or an average swimmer, heres 5 simple yet very effective hacks you should know:
1. Stay away from floating devices
Get rid of the fear of water. How you do it? Simply stay away from all the flotation devices which you think helps you achieve that. It actually doesnt help you in anyway. All it does is keep you in that state of mind for a longer time than you actually expect. It will also ensure your body positions are right from the beginner.
2. Always keep your head down
One must always keep their head down not only in every walk of life, but also when you swim. Keep your head down with the chin tucked right into your neck. You could use the same side as the arm you extend in the stroke to take in your breath. However, keeping your head in the water does the trick every time.
3. Incorporate speed drills
Newbies usually look to aim big and longer sprints, but you should rather stick to focus on the speed aspect. Try sticking to shorter sprints with a fixed clock for effective results.
4. Go for compact kick
Its not kicking hard to move faster, its more than that, most of the trainers tend to teach you the wrong way of kicking to move faster. The art of kicking is only 10% of your movement, the rest of the contribution is done by your arms. Which implies that your kick should be more compact than showing your strength of your leg.
5. Swim as tall as possible
Just like how a long tapered object hardly creates any turbulence in its movement in water, you need to swim in such a way so as to decrease the drag. To do the tapered movement, use the recovering arm early in the water as soon as it goes past your head. And once youre underwater, extend your recovering arm forward. Try to practice this way, and youd see a change the way you swim and understand the right way.
