Meade was born in Washington DC and had not planned to be an artist. She had graduated with a Bachelors degree in Political Science. She had interned for congressmen and senators on Capitol Hill, and went on to work as a press assistant on Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. 2009 is when she decided to take up art as a profession. She invented her signature style simultaneously teaching herself how to paint. It all started in her college days when she started experiencing painting over the shadows. While painting shadows and highlights on her friends body, she realized that she could make things look two-dimensional. She used to practice painting in her parents basement using inanimate objects. She thinks having no formal training in art has helped her come up with the inventive idea. She didnt restrict art to the canvas.
Alexas Living Painting Series is a collection of portraits painted on humans using acrylic paints. The parts that she leaves unpainted are the hair and the eyes which reveal the fine line between reality and art. The art is a defined mixture of painting, photography, art installation, and performance art.
Transit was one of her famous artwork, in which an old man was painted on, in her basement studio and later was photographed travelling in the metro. Meade has delivered a speech in TEDGlobal Conference You body is my Canvas in which the details of her career was given and also the behind the scenes of her work was shown. She was inspired by the installation artist, Robert Irwin whose biography has highly influenced her thoughts about the perception of space.
